Senior Java Backend Engineer

About the role

We are supporting a global technology organisation as it builds a new Centre of Excellence in Tirana. As a Senior Java Backend Engineer you will shape the technical direction of a critical internal digital platform, acting as a technical expert and reference point for the engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and evolve Java/Spring Boot backend services in microservice environments.
• Act as a technical reference for backend challenges and integration with infrastructure, frontend and other platform components.
• Contribute to the technical roadmap in collaboration with product and engineering stakeholders.
• Introduce and evaluate new technologies, guiding adoption where they add genuine value.
• Provide technical guidance and coordinate work across a sub‑team to achieve shared delivery objectives.
• Support collaboration with external partners, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Design and maintain robust REST APIs with appropriate security practices.
• Work with event‑driven architectures using Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Operate across relational and NoSQL database environments.
• Promote automated testing, continuous integration and engineering best practices such as code review and documentation.
• Champion agile ways of working throughout the development lifecycle.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong professional experience in Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven experience designing and operating microservices and distributed systems.
• Practical experience with event‑driven architectures, preferably Kafka and/or RabbitMQ.
• Experience working in agile, cross‑functional teams.
