National Expert for Fisheries Data Collection and Monitoring

About the role

The European Union’s EU4RIVERS project, implemented in Albania by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), seeks a qualified national expert to lead fisheries data collection and monitoring activities. This consultancy will support the development of the Marine Strategy Framework for Albanian coastal waters, based in Tirana.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement systematic fisheries data collection protocols across Vlora and other Albanian coastal ports.
• Monitor fish stock trends, catch composition, and fishing effort to inform marine policy.
• Coordinate with the Albanian Water Resources Management Agency (AMBU) and local stakeholders to ensure data quality and relevance.
• Produce regular analytical reports and contribute to the Marine Strategy Framework documentation.
• Provide technical guidance for the integration of collected data into EU‑funded reporting systems.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in fisheries science, marine biology, or a related environmental discipline.
• Proven experience in fisheries data collection, monitoring, and analysis, preferably within EU projects.
• Familiarity with Albanian coastal ecosystems and local fishing practices.
• Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of Albanian is an advantage.
