Head of Systems

About the role

The Head of Systems will own and evolve CC Moneybase’s entire IT infrastructure, spanning Microsoft Azure, on‑premises VMware, Linux/Windows servers and corporate end‑user services. This senior leader combines strategic direction with hands‑on problem solving, guiding a small team to deliver reliable, secure and cost‑effective technology.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the infrastructure roadmap (modernisation, automation, resilience, cost optimisation) in agreement with the CEO.
• Manage the infrastructure budget, licences, vendor relationships and cost‑control initiatives.
• Lead, coach and develop the IT Systems Manager and two systems engineers, closing skills gaps and fostering ownership.
• Own Azure estate (VMs, networking, storage, Entra ID, governance) and drive monthly cost optimisation.
• Oversee VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter lifecycle, hybrid connectivity and integration with Azure.
• Maintain and secure Linux servers across cloud and on‑premises environments.
• Set standards for corporate IT, end‑user computing, identity & access management (Intune, Microsoft 365, Entra ID) and ensure alignment with security policies.
• Ensure infrastructure availability, backup, disaster recovery testing and resilience reporting.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and automate routine operations.
• Evaluate AI‑driven security and monitoring tools to improve configuration compliance and incident response.

Required profile

• 8+ years in infrastructure or systems engineering, with at least 3 years leading a team.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure (compute, networking, storage, governance, cost management).
• Deep knowledge of VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter in production.
• Proficient Linux administration and working knowledge of Windows Server.
• Experience with Fortinet FortiGate (or equivalent) firewalls and high‑availability load balancers.
• Proven track record implementing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and running Cloudflare or similar edge/DNS/WAF platforms.
• Experience designing backup and disaster‑recovery solutions.
• Ability to communicate technical risk and trade‑offs to a non‑technical CEO.
